MILITARY UNIVERSITY OF LAND FORCES  


On 21 March, the Military University of Land Forces was visited by Colonel Prof. Liam Collins, Director of the Modern War Institute, the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA).

Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc, Eng., Rector Commandant of AWL, welcomed the American guest. The many aspects of the thriving bilateral cooperation between the universities were discussed at the meeting. The main objective of this visit organised by the Management Faculty was for the guest to deliver lectures to cadets and course participants. The first part of the speech was devoted to the hybrid warfare in eastern Ukraine, drawing attention to the numerous aspects confirming the legitimacy of using this term in respect of the Ukrainian conflict. In the second part, Colonel Collins addressed the importance of leadership as the top innovation during armed conflicts. This topic is of utmost importance for us, since leadership is one of the foundations of the University’s development on its way to becoming the best military university in Europe. Colonel Liam Collins is a special forces officer with tremendous experience in unconventional operations, including combatting terrorism. He has been awarded medals many times for his outstanding achievements in service. He served as an officer of the special forces in Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as in special operations in South America and Africa. Currently, he shares his knowledge and experience with American cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), where he is the Director of the Modern War Institute. Colonel Collins is also a professor at the Department of Military Instruction.
