On 3 February 2020, in the Mountain Training Centre of the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces in Szklarska Poręba, the Training Course "High-Altitude Activities at Low Temperatures" for professional soldiers from military units began. The current edition is attended by soldiers from the 9th Warmian Reconnaissance Regiment, the 18th Bialystok Reconnaissance Regiment, the Special Unit of the Military Police from Minsk Mazowiecki, the 10th  Armored Cavalry Brigade, and the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade.

The first part of the (specialist) course was also attended by soldiers from the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian National Guard. The course organized by the Department of Reconnaissance and Aeromobile Troops of the AWL Institute of Command covers issues of actions taken in mountainous combat enviroments, especially in the winter season.

The programme includes issues related to health prophylaxis in the mountains at high and low temperatures, mountain rescue, the basics of use of specialised winter equipment (ski-touring equipment, pickaxes, crampons, snowshoes), avalanche self-rescue techniques, risk assessment in the mountains, or how to plan a march and stay in the mountains in winter.

During the first week, the participants of the course acquired the skills of marching with skitouring skis and skiing in the field, the basics of belay methods in a team in alpine terrain and participation in an avalanche rescue operation, as well as the use of mechanical means of winter transport to move soldiers in the snow (snowmobiles, quads). Next week, they will expand their knowledge and skills in first aid for injuries in the mountains in winter and will have a chance to apply the skills that they have acquired during the preparatory mountain survival course.
