The command process, which includes phases such as positioning, planning, task setting and control, is a sequence of consecutive events, the aim of which is to work out the optimal decision to use certain power and means to conduct negative cooperation (fight) with the opponent, which will be conducted in a defined area. Negative cooperation with the opponent (fight) is always carried out with the cooperation of certain elements of support and protection in order to achieve the assumed goal of the action within a certain period of time, incurring the least losses possible.

Nowadays, the command process is strongly supported by intelligent technologies that have the ability to process large quantities of data almost in real time. However, it is the commanders and the staff who have to make the final decision, and it has to be made on the basis of verified data about the enemy and the combat environment, critical thinking, as well as their own strengths. Therefore, developing an optimal combat plan, regardless of the capabilities of modern decision support systems, will depend on many complex tactical, spatial, time-related, logistics and targeting calculations. One of the more complex tasks related to the development of contemporary tactical activities include logistic calculations consisting of how to calculate the needs, possibilities, space, and time.

Should there be information war, the access to advanced simulation or support software is insufficent. A modern commander, guided by their developed critical thinking, must acknowledge the risks involved in processing unidentified data. That's why future commanders learn how to model tactical and logistic actions at the AWL. An important part of the curriculum is the unique concept of developing cadet's mathematical competence, with emphasis being placed on special applications in the commanding process.  By enriching mental skills and building awareness that mathematics is the foundation of artificial intelligence, the AWL prepares future commanders to make decisions on the modern cybernetic battlefield. Such formula for education combined with AWL's widespread access to the latest supporting technologies determined the uniqueness of education and training process.
