On 5 December, all Poland celebrated the 150th birthday of Marshal Józef Piłsudski. The 100th anniversary of the regaining of independence by our country was celebrated in a special way by the Wrocław Opera. It hosted the “W stronę Niepodległej” (Towards an Independent Poland) gala resulting from cooperation with General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces.

The Wrocław Opera Choir was accompanied by cadets from our University who performed a parade drill, as instructed by Second Lieutenant Andrzej Sapich. Cadet Private First Class Piotr Kinzel together with members of the Historical Reenactment Section at AWL demonstrated a drill, meticulously recreated according to the 1811 protocol. Both shows accompanied a programme of legionary songs, illustrated with archival materials made available by the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek. The event ended with the singing of patriotic songs, with its finale performed by the Children’s Choir of the Opera. After the performance, the audience could treat themselves to military pea soup in the foyer of the Wrocław Opera.
