The inauguration of the academic year is a tradition celebrated at every university. This is a celebration which ends the summer holidays and starts the time of hard work. The Military University of Land Forces inaugurated the 2018/2019 academic year at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław.

“The inauguration is a special time for first-year students, who enter adulthood by starting their university education. I would like to cordially welcome you at the Military University of Land Forces (…). I congratulate you on your self-discipline and the ability to overcome your weaknesses, which enabled you to pass the difficult selection process at the initial stage of your studies at the Military University of Land Forces. Treat it as your first major and, more importantly, successfully passed exam,” said Rector Commandant Brigadier General Dariusz Skorupka, DSc, Eng. during the inauguration of the new academic year at the Military University of Land Forces. The Rector Commandant also referred to the first anniversary of establishing the Military University of Land Forces by saying, “Today the Military University of Land Forces is celebrating the first anniversary of being admitted to the group of higher education institutions. This anniversary coincides with the anniversary of our country’s independence. This is a special time for us, during which we cherish the praiseworthy traditions of our predecessor institutions,” said the Rector.

The ceremony was attended by many eminent guests, including Tomasz Zdzikot, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence, and Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen, former Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA). We also hosted representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Command of Branches of the Armed Forces, the Operational Command of Branches of the Armed Forces, military units, the Police, the State Fire Service, the clergy, voivodeship and local-government authorities, as well as delegations of national and foreign universities.

A show of military skills and a concert by the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Armed Forces served as an introduction to the inauguration.

As tradition commands it, students sang Gaudeamus Igitur, the oldest students’ song, and Knight’s Song.

An oath read out by the Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, and made by first-year students, marked a special moment of the event.

Today is a special day, especially for every student. This is the day when we inaugurate another academic year. Today we take ourselves to a higher level in the arcana of knowledge. And the youngest students are becoming fellow learners. Do everything you can so you won’t look back at this time as a wasted opportunity,” said Cadet Sergeant Adam Kołcz, Chair of the Student Council, in his address to the newly admitted students.
