MILITARY UNIVERSITY OF LAND FORCES  


-The General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces in Wroclaw, thanks to the experienced academic staff, educates exceptional people. It is a mine of knowledge which is effectively applied by its graduates in their everyday life – said Tomasz Zdzikot, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence during the official inauguration of the academic year 2019/2020 at AWL.

The Minister drew attention to the dynamic development of military education in Poland and the prestige of studying at the Military University of Land Forces.

It is a prestige created by the students and staff themselves, their attitude and pride in being a member of this community.

The ceremony was attended by many eminent guests, including representatives of the President, Prime Minister, Sejm, Ministry of National Defence, the General Command of Branches of the Armed Forces, military units, police, state fire service, voivodeship and local-government authorities, as well as delegations of national and foreign universities.

- International cooperation with the best military universities in the world remains an essential pillar of our development. Our students play an essential role in this cooperation. The goal is to provide students with opportunities to establish interpersonal contacts, become familiar with surrounding reality, raise their awareness of possible threats so they would build an effective threat neutralisation system in the future, i.e. the defence system - said the AWL Rector Commandant  Brig. DSc Eng. Diariusz Skorupka.

During the ceremony the students sang "Gaudeamus Igitur", the oldest students’ song, and "O Sacred Love of the Beloved Country".

The inauguration lecture "Poland in the face of contemporary geopolitical challenges" was delivered by D.Sc. Tadeusz Marczak, prof. at AWL.

The inauguration was also an opportunity to award the Pro Bono Poloniae Medal and Pro Patria Medals. As a recognition of the outstanding merits in dissemination of knowledge on history of struggles for independence, propagating patriotic conduct in Polish society and abroad, by the decision of the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression,  Brig. DSc Eng. Dariusz Skorupka was awarded.

As a recognition of the outstanding merits in cultivating the memory of the fight for Polish independence, the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression presented the „Pro Patria” Medal to: Colonel PhD Eng. Jacek Narloch, Lieutenant Colonel PhD Józef Ledzianowski, Lieutenant Colonel Wojciech Czerechowski.

For the first time in the history of the Academy, the Rector Commandant awarded doctoral diplomas in a field of social sciences, specialisation in safety science. The first doctors at AWL are: Lieutenant Colonel, PhD, Eng. Piotr Szczepański, PhD Paweł Olbrycht, Superintendent PhD Krzysztof Justyński, PhD Suhel Samuel Moussa, PhD Aneta Chrząszcz, PhD Robert Gwardyński.

The Rector Commandant granted the individual, first degree awards. The awards went to:

  • Lieutenant Colonel, D.Sc. Norbert Świętochowski - for being awarded the academic degree of Doctor in a field of social sciences specialisation in safety science, as well as for significant achievements in science at home and abroad;
  • Lieutenant Colonel, D.Sc. Marek Bodziany - for being awarded the academic degree of Doctor in a field of social sciences, specialisation in safety science, as well as for journalistic and scientific achievements in the academic year 2018/2019.

The Rector Commandant granted the individual, second degree awards. The awards went to:

  • Lieutenant Colonel, Dr, Eng. Piotr Szczepański - for being awarded the academic degree of Doctor in a field of social sciences, specialisation in safety science;
  • PhD Paweł Olbrycht - for being awarded the academic degree of Doctor in a field of social sciences, specialisation in safety science, as well as for journalistic achievements in the 2018/2019 academic year.

The Rector Commandant granted the individual, third degree awards. The awards went to:

  • Prof. DSc Eng. Marian Kopczewski - for achievements in science, scientific research, for journalistic achievements with regard to journals indexed in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education list, as well as for serving as the authority in the recognized, national and foreign societies, organizations and scientific institutions, and for being a member of the editorial committee board of the scientific journal placed on the Ministry of Science and Higher Education list, and for taking part in the scientific development at the University and outside;
  • Lieutenant Colonel, PhD Józef Ledzianowski - for fostering patriotic attitudes among students and cadets at the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces, as well as for achievements in education and organisation in the 2018/2019 academic year;
  • D.Sc. Dominika Mierzwa - for achievements in science, education and organisation in the 2018/2019 academic year.

The Rector Commandant granted the team award of first degree for journalistic achievements with regard to journals indexed in the prestigious international databases (Web of Science) and journals indexed in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education list, and for implementation of research projects and grants, as well as for the establishment of a research laboratory, within the scope of strategic research programs for the "BRIK" economy at the Military University of Land Forces. The awards went to the team comprising: D.Sc. Eng. Adam Junuszko; Colonel DSc Eng. Witalis PellowskI; Lieutenant Colonel, PhD, Eng. Robert Pich; D.Sc. Agnieszka Iwan; PhD, Eng. Jarosław Rusin; PhD Agnieszka Gonciarz.

The Rector Commandant granted the team award of second degree for making a significant contribution to the development and promotion of innovative methods of logistics processes modelling, implementation of scientific projects and expert analyses in the field of military logistics, as well as for organizational activities in the 2018/2019 academic year. The awards went to the team comprising: Lieutenant Colonel, PhD, Eng. Maciej Szukalski; Lieutenant Colonel, PhD Wiktor Biernikowicz; Major, PhD, Eng. Jacek Ryczyński; Major, PhD Sławomir Paterak; Captain MSc Robert Kocur.

The Rector Commandant granted the team award of third degree for making a significant contribution to the innovative and useful solutions , expert activity for the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and the Armed Forces General Command in the area of tactical simulations used at AWL, as well as for drawing up projects aimed at the use of simulators as modern didactic tools for military training, and for organizational activities in the 2018/2019 academic year. The awards went to the team comprising: Colonel PhD Czesław Dąbrowski, Major MSc Eng. Aleksander Ziemiński; Captain MSc Dawid Dobies; Captain MSc Eng. Wojciech Kalinowski; Lieutenant MSc Anna Wojaczek.

In the academic year 2018/2019, the Rector Commandant awarded diploma theses. The awards for the best Master’s theses went to: Second Lieutenant Jakub Krawczyk; Second Lieutenant Agata Gowik; MSc Izabella Staroch; MSc Magdalena Nowak. The award for the best Engineer’s thesis went to Cadet Sergeant Kaja Cebulak. The awards for the best Bachelor’s theses went to: Platoon Cadet Krzysztof Wiśniewski and Paweł Chmura.

The Local Government of Dolnośląskie Voivodeship founded the “Best Diploma of the Year” award in accordance with the Regulations on Award. The Committee awarded the best second degree diploma thesis among the successfully defended theses at the Safety Science Faculty and Management Faculty in the 2018/2019 academic year. The award went to MSc Sandra Pasieka.

The ceremony was accompanied by the Representative Choir of the Military University of Land Forces concert and a show of military skills by the Irregular Operations Section and the Close-Contact Combat Section.

365 cadets and 552 students are starting the 2019/2020 academic year. Senior years students also continue education at the AWL. In total, there are more than two thousand students of full-time and part-time studies (first-cycle studies, second-cycle studies).
