The Rector Commandant, Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc,  Eng., on 09 October 2019, at the invitation of the Ambassador of Japan to Poland, His Excellency Tsukasa Kawada, discussed issues related to the development of mutual relations between the Military University of Land Forces and The National Defense Academy of Japan. The meeting was attended by the Defence Attaché - Col Takashi Suzuki, and a representative of the Department of the Military Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of National Defence - Col Michał Pawlak.

A groundbreaking strategy for the development of AWL defined by the Rector-Commandant, which is based on learning, verification and implementation of the best global organisational and training solutions, determines the need to broaden international cooperation with the best military universities in the world.

Established in 1952, the National Safety Academy, which in 1954 was transformed into the the National Defense Academy in Yokosuka, is the only military university that educates future officers for the needs of land forces, air forces and navy - the leaders of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. The National Defense Academy in Yokosuka is a prestigious higher education institution and is among the best military academic centres in the world. This position results, inter alia, from the widespread use in the didactic process of the latest educational, organisational and technological solutions, which allow to achieve an interesting phenomenon of cognitive synergy.

The first steps towards cooperation with the National Defense Academy in Yokosuka have already been taken. In November 2018, at the invitation of the academy authorities, cadets of  AWL: Cdt Sgt Dawid Gańczak and Cdt Sgt Jakub Rybiński participated in the international week, during which they became familiar with the structures of the higher education institution and with Japanese culture. At the turn of February and March 2019, AWL delegation including: Cdt Sgt Jakub Bajorek and Cdt Sgt Maksymilian Leśniak attended the International Cadets' Conference. The main objective of the meeting was to create friendly relations and exchange views of cadets from all over the world (including  the USA, Canada, China, Japan, France, Italy) on international security and potential challenges to be met if the international environment is to be free from threats that may turn into a state of war. During the plenary sessions, issues concerning ensuring security for permanent and sustainable global development were discussed. Discussions also centred on the development of artificial intelligence and its influence on decision support systems on the battlefield.

The outcome of the discussions with His Excellency Tsukasa Kawada, the Ambassador of Japan to Poland, is highly optimistic and will surely lead to a broader cooperation with another prestigious Asian higher education institution in the nearest future. Currently, AWL cooperates with nearly sixty academic centers throughout the world.

The Rector Commandant, Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc,  Eng., from 23 to 26 October 2019 will be on a working visit to The National Defense Academy of Japan.
